The fundamental active ingredients within our products are saponins and glycocomponents.
Saponins have high tensoactive properties and as such, they play an important role in animal
nutrition. The saponins’ powerful surfactant property increase the permeability of the cell
membrane of the intestinal wall and allows a better absorption of nutrients, in addition to
accelerating the microbial activity of the normal intestinal flora, improving digestion and
the utilization of feed.
Glycocomponents are highly thermo stable molecular structures, which have an affinity for and
the ability to bind ammonia molecules within the digestive tract and metabolic process,
neutralizing its toxic and harmful effects. These compounds convert free ammonia by a physical
and not a chemical process, into a non-toxic nitrogenous compound, thus improving environmental
conditions allowing the normal flora to increase its activity to degrade organic material within
the intestines, resulting in a more complete and efficient digestion.
Consequently, these effects reduce the emission of ammonia, hydrogen sulfide and other toxic gases,
which are produced in the degradation process of animal waste, into the environment. These effects
are also beneficial to the environmental conditions of confinement units, and as a result improve
productivity parameters for animal production.
GLYCOCOMPONENTS
Glycocomponents are complex, highly thermo stable, molecules that include some compounds of sugars or
glycosides. These molecules have an affinity to join ammonia, bind and neutralize it; Thus, reducing
the high levels of this toxic element. The mechanism of action is through the physical molecular union
of these compounds with ammonia.
The effect of glycocomponents within our Yucca schidigera products begins immediately from the
digestion of food in the digestive tract of the animal, where the ammonia is first neutralized and the
concentration is reduced; allowing for a better absorption of nutrients, because there is no interference
within the intestinal membrane. In addition, to decreasing ammonia levels, glycocomponents also improve
the conditions surrounding the intestinal flora; increasing its degradation activity, resulting in a more
complete digestion.
Glycocomponents also reduce the emission of ammonia into the environment derived from feces and urine, thus
improving environmental conditions of confinement houses, pens, and the surrounding area, also improving
productive parameters and the general health of animals.
SAPONINS
Saponins are glycosides that occur naturally in the Yucca schidigera plant. Its name is derived precisely from the Latin word
“sapo” meaning soap describing its ability to form stable foam similar to soap in aqueous solutions. This characteristic is easily
observable, and has been the original interest for Yucca schidigera since ancient times.
Saponins have highly surfactant or detergent-like properties, as they are amphipathic, meaning they have a water-soluble and
fat-soluble component. Saponins represent a very important role in animal nutrition having these tensoactive properties.
The saponins found in our products, increase the permeability of the cells in the intestinal wall, allowing greater absorption
of nutrients, and in addition, they accelerate the natural microbial activity within the intestinal flora resulting in better
feed digestion, which translates into a higher productivity index in the animal.
Products made with Yucca schidigera increase productive parameters such as feed conversion,
weight gain and improve the productivity of animals.
REDUCTION OF AMMONIA
Ammonia is a highly toxic, irritant, colorless soluble gas that naturally occurs in the metabolic
process of digestion. It is also a causative agent of damage in the mucosa of the respiratory and
ocular systems of animals. A harmful secondary effect of ammonia is carried out when the ammonia
enters the circulatory system of animals, causing damage within pulmonary membranes possibly
causing animal mortality.
Glycocomponents have the ability to bind ammonia molecules in the intestinal tract, neutralizing
the harmful effects of ammonia and converting it into a non-toxic nitrogenous compound. When the
glycocomponent-ammonia compound is formed, it can be used by the microorganisms of intestinal flora
as a nitrogen source, therefore, improving digestion. Also, when ammonia is bound by the glycocomponents,
the ammonia does not interfere in a harmful manner with the absorption of nutrients through the intestinal wall.

INCREASED ABSORPTION OF NUTRIENTS
An important part of the biological effects of saponins in animals is due to its effects
on cell membranes in the intestinal wall.
Saponins have the specific ability to form pores in the membranes, which allow the membrane
to be more permeable and facilitate the absorption of nutrients from food through the
intestinal wall.
The mechanism is relatively simple, first of all, cholesterol and saponins form a bond
within the membrane, thereby, forming a trans-membranal pore.
These small pores do not have a negative effect on the integrity of the cell membrane of the
intestinal wall; they only allow and facilitate the absorption of nutrients increasing the
benefits from the food the animals eat.
